Lack of Balance

Just a quick post, as I only got 2 hours of sleep last night and I'm way too tired and cranky to be creative.  Still having a pooping problem.  If I don't take the Milk of Magnesia, I get very backed up.  Since I don't have a colon or a rectum, I have no storage facility.  It quickly becomes very uncomfortable (scratch that.  It's downright painful) and doesn't take much for me to begin vomiting (the body says heck, if it won't go out one way, we'll make go back out the way it came in).  So, then I take the Milk of Mag.  I only take 1 Tb. and that is still too much for my body to handle.  The cramping pain is some of the worse pain.  I'm also unable to get off the loo for more then 10 mins at a time.   Sigh, there has to be a happy medium here.  I just haven't found it yet.
I continually find myself wishing I still had Stoma Stan.

Oh, Steph, I'm so sorry your body is having such a hard time adjusting. Has you Dr said anything about Miralax? It's now OTC and Dylan has been on it for a long time. He's had SEVERE constipation since he was a newborn. It's a powder you mix with any drink. It works really well for him, doesn't give him cramps or the runs. It couldn't hurt to ask!
I sure hope things get staightened out SOON!

I agree with Mandy Steph. Maybe the Miralax would be easier on your body. You might have to use both at times but your body might be happier. Don't worry about calling the Doc and complaining or ask for new ideas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hang in there. Love Aunt Teri

Have you tried tweaking your fiber intake? I've never tried it myself (tho I do have it stockpiled in the house), but I've heard that Benefiber is good stuff and can get mixed into just about anything (beverages, yogurt, etc).

This whole new normal thing is an extremely elusive concept...I *know* it's frustrating, but try to give yourself time. The good news is you can always bring Stan back if things don't equalize!

Wishing you all the best!!

Still thinking about you and wishing you peace, comfort and ease with what we all take for granted. ((hugs))

I don't know you but an aunt(I think)of yours told me about your site. My name is Mary and I am an RN at Minnesota Gastroenterology. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer December of 2007. They removed his sigmoid colon and most of his rectum. Like you, my dad also experiences the severe pain but also a constant urge/pushing sensation of having to go. I wish I had a magic solution for you and my father but I don't. I would like you to know that I have great admiration for you and that my prayers are with you. Mary
